The 12 Around 1 Whole-System Framework

The map of a living culture: twelve domains of a sovereign, regenerative culture arranged around a unifying centre — each distinct, all one living whole.

Modelled on the vector equilibrium — twelve around one, every part in balanced relationship — so we can hold the whole in view while we work on the parts.

The 12 Around 1 Whole-System Framework is the map of a living culture: twelve domains of a sovereign, regenerative culture arranged around a single unifying centre — each distinct, all one living whole.

Its geometry is the vector equilibrium — Buckminster Fuller's name for the cuboctahedron, the one form in which twelve points surround a centre with every edge equal to the radius. It is the geometry of balance: twelve domains held in equal relationship, none above the others, all in service to the whole.

At the still centre is the Zero Point — the field every system arises from and returns to. Because the same pattern repeats at every scale, the map reads the same for a person, a family, a village or a civilisation.

I've come to see culture this way — not as a list of sectors to manage, but as twelve living domains held in relationship around a single centre.

Zero Point — The Field
The still centre the twelve orbit — the unified field every system arises from and returns to.
You are the still centre of your own universe — the Zero Point from which the twelve domains emerge and to which they return. Less a thirteenth domain than the unifying ground that holds the other twelve in relationship, it is the point around which a living culture, and a life, turns.
Because the same pattern repeats at every scale, the centre is fractal: what is true of a self is true of a family, a village and a civilisation. Tend the centre — coherence, consciousness, shared purpose — and the whole system finds its equilibrium.

The wheel and the ladder

Turned on its side, the wheel becomes a ladder — the twelve are not a hierarchy of worth but a circle every being can climb, from the ground of physical life toward shared purpose. Begin anywhere; the circle has no top.

Used well, the framework lets you hold the whole in view while you work on the parts — to see where a life, a project or a community is thriving, where it is thin, and how each domain quietly feeds the others.
